On 28 July, the magnificent Marina Rebeka will give her first major summer concert at Dzintari Concert Hall in Jūrmala. Joining the celebrated soprano on stage will be the Chilean-American tenor Jonathan Tetelman (b. 1988), one of the most exciting opera stars of his generation. This is one of those rare occasions when Latvian audiences have the opportunity to experience an opera singer at the very height of his international career — not on his way to stardom, but already firmly established among the world’s leading artists.

Marina Rebeka’s name is spoken with admiration by opera lovers around the world. One of the most internationally successful sopranos Latvia has ever produced, she is a sought-after guest at the opera houses and concert halls every singer dreams of performing in. La Scala in Milan and the Salzburg Festival, the Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall in New York, London’s Covent Garden, the Paris and Vienna State Operas, the Berlin State Opera and Madrid’s Teatro Real — audiences at all of these prestigious venues have greeted the Riga-born soprano and her captivating voice with enthusiastic acclaim.

Jonathan Tetelman has conquered many of these same stages. Five years ago, The New York Times described him as a “total star”, while Opera News called him “truly a major talent with a brilliant career ahead.” Deutsche Grammophon, one of the world’s leading classical music labels, signed Tetelman to an exclusive recording contract and has already released two of his solo albums. His debut album, Arias, was conducted by Latvian audiences’ favourite Karel Mark Chichon, and in 2023 earned Tetelman an OPER! Award. More recently, the German opera magazine also named him Best Male Singer of the Year.

This season, both Marina and Jonathan are devoting considerable attention not only to their operatic roles but also to concert appearances. Marina is appearing on tour with legendary tenor Jonas Kaufmann, while Jonathan has dedicated an extensive solo programme to his idol, Mario Lanza. On 28 July, however, the two stars will come together in Jūrmala to offer their audience an extraordinary and unforgettable evening — a concert not to be missed.
